Job description
- Responsible for a section or portion of a project as well as responsible for the overall planning, programme, costing and health and safety performance of the area of responsibility within the allowables for that section.
- Sets up and manages on-site team structures, and is responsible for identification and allocation of all resources, i.e. staff, plant and subcontractors, in line with project requirements and to optimise performance.
- Manage site teams and increasing efficiencies of resources.
- Manage waste control and reduction on site.
- Prepare and interpret daily reports, costing and weekly programmes
- Monitor programmes and ensure deadlines are met.
- Comply with the quality control systems.
- Ensure efficient and effective material ordering and handling.
- Manage quality of work in terms of specifications.
- Understand the construction process & knowledge of all related trades
- Ensure that quality of work are of the highest standard.
- Responsible for the effective optimisation of financial performance of site and implementation of site-specific systems, e.g. trend analyses, forecast reports and procurement controls.
- Manages the quality of site deliverables.
- Visibly supports the Stop.Think.Act.24/7 campaign and other HSE initiatives and objectives.
- Comply with all health and safety, company policies, procedures and standards.
- Monitors and measures safety practices and results and meets targets set.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
• Grade 12
• Relevant Degree or Diploma
Experience
• Minimum 5 – 8 years’ experience in the Construction industry or related environment.
Knowledge and Skills
• Ability to think methodically and to manage large sections of a project; or to manage a small project
• Ability to plan, set up and manage large operations independently
• Ability to read, understand and organize construction Plans and Specifications;
• Must be able to order material required on site off the drawings
• Computer literate and working knowledge of CCS and IMS;
• Working knowledge of the OHS ACT, and Construction Regulations;
• In depth working knowledge of COLTO and SANS 1200 specifications with specific reference to the Measurement and Payment of the Works
• Working knowledge of company costing system and monthly P&L reporting
• Knowledge and understanding of various general conditions of contract, as well as experience in dealing with bespoke conditions of contract
• Ability to identify Variations in the Contract
• Ability to apply Engineering skills to achieve Value Engineering
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational and problem solving skill
• Ability to work as part of the team, while exercising own judgment
• Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
