Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Foreman.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for enabling the completion of jobs in a timely manner by scheduling and overseeing the labour, ensuring equipment and materials are sufficient, repairing and maintaining equipment, training crews, and assisting with special projects as assigned.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates and to candidates who are currently based in the Western Cape. This position is available for the C3 project in Cape Town and will be on a Limited Duration Contract (“LDC”) basis for the duration of the project.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient way to ensure zero accidents and maintain job budgets.
- Understand the project plans and specifications
- Manage the field to minimize overtime and communicate when overtime is required to the team.
- Effectively identify concrete mixes and determine the required equipment and procedures to achieve the desired finish and performance results
- Determine required safety procedures based on job site conditions and materials encountered
- Be able to communicate with the Site Agent, Equipment, and manpower to meet schedules and deadlines
- Verify the completion as necessary and perform routine maintenance
- Safely unload and secure equipment and attachments to the transport vehicle
- Recruit and train the site labour associated with your team
- Complete daily reports to include time spent on the job (employee timecards), weather conditions, subcontractors working on Concor, and a general daily description that includes activities performed, delays incurred, and changes directed by the client in the field.
- Verify and approve employee timecard entries from the wage clerk's daily and weekly reports by the noted deadline for payroll
- Verify the contents of inventory loads against delivery notes.
- Know the whereabouts of suppliers and products along the front range
- Be able to work with the operations and Procurement Departments on material orders
- Inspire team members to achieve high levels of production
- Visibly supports the Stop. Think. Act. 24/7 campaign and other HSE initiatives and objectives
- Comply with all health and safety, company policies, procedures, and standards
- Ensure safe work practices are adhered to at all times
- Monitors and measures safety practices and results, and meets targets set
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12 - Trade qualification OR a NQF level 4 - Technical Artisan qualification, especially in earthworks or building disciplines
Experience
- A minimum of 5-6 years of experience in a site supervisory or Foreman role within the construction industry, specifically in the building environment.
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must be a South African Citizen
Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook)
- Ability to read construction drawings, understand, and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Extensive knowledge of quality control standards and testing methodologies
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently while exercising great judgement
- Excellent communication skills
