Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Site Engineer. The successful incumbent will be responsible for the effective planning, execution, and control of construction activities on site. The role ensures that works are carried out safely, to the required quality standards, within budget, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and Concor Buildings’ procedures. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates and to candidates who are currently based in the Western Cape. This position is available for the Cape Town Logistics Warehouse Facility project in Matroosfontein and will be on a Fixed Term Contract basis for the duration of the structural works.
Job description

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):

Planning & Technical Coordination

  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Assist with planning and sequencing of construction activities in line with the project programme
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all concrete works, including foundations, columns, beams, slabs, walls, and associated elements.
  • Prepare short-term programmes, look-ahead schedules, and daily work plans.
  • Coordinate construction activities with subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams.
  • Provide technical support to site staff and subcontractors.
Site Supervision & Execution
  • Supervise day-to-day site operations to ensure works are executed in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor workmanship and productivity of subcontractors and labour teams.
  • Ensure correct setting out of works and verify levels, lines, and dimensions.
  • Identify and resolve technical and constructability issues on site.
  • Ensure correct installation of formwork, reinforcement, cast-in items, and post-tensioning where applicable.
  • Monitor concrete pouring, testing, compaction, curing, and finishing processes.
  • Resolve site technical issues related to concrete works and provide practical engineering solutions.
Quality Control
  • Implement and maintain quality control systems in line with the project Quality Management Plan.
  • Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Ensure all work meets project specifications, standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Identify, record, and close out non-conformance reports (NCRs).
  • Maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
  • Coordinate and document concrete testing (slump tests, cube tests, etc.) and ensure results meet specification requirements.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
  • Enforce compliance with the project Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) plan.
  • Ensure all site activities comply with legal and company safety requirements.
  • Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and assist with investigations.
Cost Control & Commercial Support
  • Assist with the measurement of completed works for progress claims.
  • Monitor material usage and minimize waste.
  • Identify potential variations and notify site management timeously.
  • Support cost control initiatives by reducing rework and inefficiencies.
Communication & Reporting
  • Liaise with project management, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Attend site meetings and provide technical input where required.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, inspection checklists, and reports.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications
  • National Diploma, BTech, or a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Experience
  • 3 years of experience in building construction projects.
  • Experience working for main contractors on medium to large-scale projects.
  • Experience coordinating and supervising concrete works on medium to large-scale projects
 
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Sound understanding of building construction methods and sequencing.
  • Knowledge of South African construction standards and regulations (e.g., SANS).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic construction software.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
