Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Auto Electrician.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for auto electrical maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and earthmoving machines.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates. This position is site-based and situated in the Northern Cape. This position is on a limited-duration basis (“LDC”).
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Investigate, diagnose, and perform trade-related maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery according to maintenance requirements
- Attend to defects raised on pre-start reports, breakdown sheets, and over-inspection reports
- Perform equipment over-inspection on work done by apprentices and operatives, where appropriate, and provide feedback and guidance as required
- Report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the foreman
- Provide relevant feedback to the foreman and co-workers regarding equipment performance and conditions
- Develop, modify, construct, and install related equipment required for the safe operation of all equipment within the area of responsibility
- Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure
- Communicate with clients and supervisors to inform them of maintenance activities performed and the availability of equipment
- Ensure the availability of machinery
- Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Perform all functions in accordance with the relevant health, safety and environmental standards
- Travel to various sites to carry out repairs on electrical and air-conditioning systems on earthmoving equipment as and when required.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- Grade 12/N3
- A recognised Auto Electrical Trade Certificate through a recognised apprenticeship
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience within the auto electrical field (post-apprenticeship)
- Previous experience within the Construction/Engineering and/or mining is essential
- Good understanding of Liebherr heavy mining equipment.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledgeable with practical experience in Engineering technologies and practices
- Sound knowledge of the use of the CAT electronic diagnostic computer
- Mechanical and electrical knowledge on the Liebherr 9200 excavator
- Sound knowledge in the use of the Mercedes-Benz electronic diagnostic computer.
- Excellent knowledge in repairs of electrical components – starters, alternators etc
- Excellent knowledge in Auto Air-conditioning installation, fault finding, repairs, and re-gassing
- Excellent troubleshooting and fault-finding skills
- Excellent hands-on knowledge of electrical and electronic systems
- Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook)
- Good verbal and written communication in English
- Independent, proactive thinker and have the ability to do own job planning
- Maintain sound budget controlAnalytical with attention to detail
