Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Artisan (Panel Beater). The successful incumbent will report directly to the Workshop Supervisor.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing body repairs, stripping and assembly of body parts, ordering of correct parts, gas welding, TIG welding, spray painting, and restoring construction machinery to ensure optimal functionality, adhere to ISO safety standards, maintain safety files, and produce aesthetic quality work. The candidate is required to supply their own basic tool kit.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates. This position is based at the main workshops in Amalgam, Johannesburg, and will be on a permanent basis.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Conduct panel beating, dent removal, and welding repairs on construction plant machinery and equipment.
- Prepare, prime, mask, and refinish surfaces using professional spray-painting techniques.
- Ensure all work is carried out to manufacturer, industry, and company standards.
- Maintain accurate job records, paint codes, and material usage.
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Support the wider workshop team with refurbishment and maintenance tasks as required.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- Recognised trade qualification/certification in Panel Beating or Spray Painting.
- Valid SA driving licence.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years’ proven experience in panel beating and spray painting, experience on construction plant will be an added advantage.
- Welding and fabrication skills are a requirement (TIG/Arc/Gas).
- Experience with heavy machinery, light delivery vehicles, commercial vehicles, or plant equipment preferred.
Knowledge and Skill
- Technical expertise in panel beating, welding, and spray painting.
- Proficient in surface preparation, sanding, priming, and colour matching.
- Strong understanding of corrosion protection methods for heavy machinery.
- Ability to identify structural and cosmetic damage and apply effective repair solutions.
- High attention to detail with a focus on quality and durability.
- Remove and replace decals as per company requirements and OEM standards.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Safety-conscious with knowledge of safe handling of paints, solvents, and tools.
- Effective communicator and reliable team player.
