Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Senior Tender Buyer. The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the Group Procurement Executive. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing end-to-end support to the Estimating team by coordinating the tender buying process from splitting bills to managing and following up on market responses. The candidate will further implement business strategies to leverage the market for favorable rates and terms. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates including disabled applicants. This position is based at the Head Office in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, but the candidate will be required to travel as and when required.
Job description

 

  • Monitor and maintain complex databases/systems and apply analytical tools, techniques, and systems to analyse and interpret a wide range of supplier and organisational information and options to support tender procurement decision-making.
  • Develop strategies for delivering commercial and cost-effective solutions to support winning tenders.
  • Splitting bills of quantities into respective trades or categories and issuing inquiries to market.
  •  Keeping track of market responses, following up on key & outstanding proposals, and keeping the bid committee updated on the status of responses constantly through the process. 
  • Attend tender site briefings and conduct area surveys.
  • Interacting with the bid owner/committee and ensuring alignment between procedures, strategy, and expectations.
  • Ensure that planning is in place to deliver the requirements by the closing dates.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with the supply chain to unlock business advantages.
  • Evaluate and analyse rates that inform supply chain negotiations
  • Ensure that all required returnables are promptly sent out, completed, and returned. 
  • Contribute to a culture that develops a conducive environment to ensure seamless interaction between the Estimating and Procurement teams.
  • Deliver compliance to process and procedure.
  • Apply risk management and compliance checks when researching and analysing supply markets.
  • Support the project buying team with advice and handovers of newly awarded projects.

Minimum requirements

Qualifications
  • National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field 
Experience 
  • Minimum 5- 10 years experience in Procurement which includes Supply Chain Management within a Construction or related environment. 
  • 5 - 10 years of tender buying experience specifically in the Civil, Roads & Earthworks environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of project management and construction management tools/systems, i.e.  CCS, JDE, etc.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Strong knowledge of the BBBEE Preferential Procurement requirements as per the Construction Charter
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of construction materials and methods.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Strong negotiation, good communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
  • Analytical, and numerically astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities

  • Must have a valid South African Driver's License & have own vehicle
  • Must have a valid Passport and be prepared to travel in RSA and Africa (cross-border) as and when required
