Introduction
Concor invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Group Chief Financial Officer. The successful incumbent will report directly to the Group CEO.
The CFO will have overall operational responsibility for managing all financial-related activities of the Group. This will include responsibility for the Group’s financial strategy, financing and transactions; as well as responsibility for the accounting, finance, tax, legal, IT, internal audit, procurement and payroll functions - and their related policies, procedures, controls, reports and compliance requirements. In addition, the CFO will actively support the GCEO with regard to shareholder relationships.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.
Job description
- Partner with the GCEO on the Group strategy with direct responsibility for the business plan, financial strategy and continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
- Provide the GCEO with advice on financial implications of the Group’s business activities to enhance financial performance.
- Support the GCEO in the management of shareholder relations.
- Oversee the preparation of the Group’s annual financial statements in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and relevant legislation and regulations.
- Monitor and oversee the Group’s working capital and cash flow to ensure it is optimum for the organisation’s needs.
- Oversee the coordination and activities of external auditors, ensuring all audit issues are resolved.
- Arrange appropriate financing, banking and capital structuring for the Group, and maintain good relationships with banks and other funding institutions.
- Coordinate the development and communication of accurate budgets, financial assessments, forecasts, consolidation and reporting for the Group.
- Lead and coordinate the evaluation and execution of strategic transactions and investments.
- Maintain strong relationships with business unit managing directors and financial directors so as to advise and assist them on business activities as they relate to financial management, including forecasting.
- Ensure that effective internal financial controls are in place and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, legislation, Group policies – supported by appropriate internal auditing processes.
- Provide financial input into the Group’s risk management and contract procurement processes.
- Oversee effective policies and procedures for accurate contract/project costing, administration and reporting – inside and outside South Africa.
- In addition to the accounting, finance, internal audit and tax functions, also manage the Group’s IT, Facilities, Procurement, and Payroll departments - and ensure required policies, procedures, and controls are in place.
- Ensure that appropriate financial IT systems, including an ERP system, are in place and kept up to date.
- Lead, develop and transform the staff in the various departments and functions under the CFO’s direct and indirect (business unit) control.
- Prepare for and attend Board and Subcommittee (in particular Audit & Risk) meetings.

Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- Qualified CA (SA) registered with SAICA / SAIPA
- A relevant post graduate qualification would be an advantage.
Experience
- 12 years’ financial and related functions senior leadership experience in either construction, infrastructure, mining or related contracting environment.
- Property and Infrastructure financing experience in a contracting environment would be an advantage
- Procurement and financing of heavy capital equipment would be an advantage
- Successful implementation of Business or Project Turnarounds
- Experience in a senior leadership role as a chief financial officer.
Knowledge
- Expert knowledge in the full range of financial management, including accounting practice and reporting in terms of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and relevant legislation and regulations.
- Proven track record in business financing, and maintaining relationships with banks and other funding institutions.
Skills
- Excellent strategic, leadership, organizational and negotiation skills.
- Ability to mentor, develop, and manage a team in a diverse range of departments and functions, with related staff transformation and development requirements.
- Proven ability to manage internal and external auditing.
- Practical knowledge of an ERP system, ideally JD Edwards and Hyperion
- Analytical, numerate and attention to detail.
- Excellent forecasting and problem solving skills, and ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on thorough analyses.
- Strong ability to prioritize and work well under pressure to meet deadlines in a dependable manner.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a high level of integrity and sound ethical behavior.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel.
