Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic to join our project based in Blinkwater. The successful incumbent will maintain Concor’s Earthmoving equipment and related equipment according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications, take ownership of the machines or vehicles to be maintained by them, advise management on the current condition of vehicles, and advise on the best maintenance solutions. The position is site-based, and applicants will be required to travel and/or relocate. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates. This position will be on an LDC basis.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel-powered machinery
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and report mechanical issues to supervisors
- Maintain accurate service records and job cards
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards
- Maintain toolboxes and equipment in good working order
- Provide support in field breakdowns and after-hours callouts if required.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- Recognised Diesel Mechanic Trade Certificate (e.g., Red Seal or Section 13)
- Matric / Grade 12
- Valid driver's license (Code 10/14 will be advantageous)
Experience
- 3 - 5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably in the mining or construction environment.
- Hands-on experience with earthmoving equipment and yellow plant such as: Excavators, ADTs, TLBSs, Bulldozers, Graders, and Dump Trucks.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and engine overhauls
- Must have experience with brands like Caterpillar, Komatsu, Bell, Hitachi, Volvo, etc
Knowledge and Skills
- Physically fit and able to work in harsh and remote environments
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- Able to work independently and in a team
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or shift work if needed
Safety and Compliance
- Must be familiar with the Mine Health and Safety Act and site-specific protocols
- Must be able to complete and follow risk assessments, toolbox talks, and checklists
- Must have an understanding of the use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures
Additional Requirements
- Own a basic tool kit
- Must have valid medicals, induction certificates, or the ability to obtain them quickly
- Ability to travel or relocate to project sites for extended periods
