Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Electrical Contracts or Projects Manager.
The successful incumbent will be responsible for the effective overall management of the site. This includes the optimisation of financial performance of the site and implementation of site-specific systems and controls, i.e., daily costing, programme management, QA/QC, HSE, procurement controls, budgets and forecasts, cost reporting, Client and Stakeholder liaison, etc.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates. This position is available for the De Aar and Kareebosch Windfarm Projects in the Northern Cape and will be on a Limited Duration Contract (“LDC”) basis for the duration of the project.
Job description
The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Ensure overall responsibility for safely managing one or more large and complex infrastructure projects.
- Daily interface meetings with subcontractors and resources
- Daily reporting on trackers such as procurement and progress
- Interfacing between the client, designers, and production personnel on-site
- Ensure the budgeted turnover and profitability of the projects are achieved and exceeded.
- Take control of subcontractor and supplier management and be intimately involved with project planning and programming.
- Liaison with all stakeholders, including senior management and representatives of the client;
- Weekly and monthly management reporting.
- Assisting Site Managers with complex operational and commercial problems.
- Development and implementation of Group and platform initiatives and goals into action plans.
- Assist the Procurement Department in submitting and winning tenders.
- Train, mentor, and performance manage subordinate Site Managers on various sites.
Compliance
- Ensure all work is executed in accordance with applicable legal, environmental, and safety standards (e.g., OHSA, SANS, ISO standards).
- Drive compliance with client specifications, employer’s requirements, and contract conditions.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- A degree/diploma in Electrical Engineering
- Must be registered as a professional with SACPCMP as PR.PM
Experience
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a project manager within the construction industry, especially within the electrical construction environment and windfarms.
- Previous experience working on utility-scale wind energy facilities, including knowledge of electrical balance of plant (EBOP) and turbine interface coordination, will be highly advantageous.
- Experience managing both civil and electrical packages on renewable energy projects is preferred
- Must have a valid driver’s licence
- Must be a South African Citizen
Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook)
- Ability to think methodically and to manage large sections of a project
- Ability to read, understand, and organize construction Plans and Specifications
- Must have a working knowledge of CCS estimating and planning modules
- Working knowledge of the OHS Act and Construction Regulations
- Good working knowledge of various conditions of contract specifications (e.g., FIDIC, GCC, NEC);
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Ability to work as part of the team, while exercising own judgment
- Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
Technical Skills:
- Familiar with project management tools such as MS Project.
- Proficient in preparing and interpreting cash flows, earned value analysis, and progress reports.
