Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitable, qualified, and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Senior Buyer. The role is based at our Bedfordview Head Office and will provide procurement support primarily to the Infrastructure Division, with additional exposure to Building projects. The Senior Buyer will play a pivotal role in the sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of materials and services, ensuring optimal value, quality, and delivery performance for the organisation. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Procurement, Finance, and Project teams to ensure the timely fulfilment of business requirements and adherence to procurement governance. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates, including persons with disabilities.
Job description

The Senior Buyer will be accountable for, but not limited to, the following:

Procurement Execution & Compliance

  • Review purchase requisitions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with procurement policies.
  • Source and procure materials, equipment, and services in line with cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to Procurement Policies, Procedures, and Delegation of Authority at all times.
  • Manage procurement documentation, audit readiness, and governance requirements.

     Supplier & Contract Management

  • Identify, assess, and onboard potential suppliers in accordance with company standards.
  • Lead negotiations on pricing, payment terms, contract conditions, and service-level expectations.
  • Manage supplier relationships, performance evaluation, and ongoing issue resolution.
  • Maintain and update the Group’s supplier database to ensure accuracy and compliance

     Strategic Sourcing & Value Delivery

  • Implement cost-saving initiatives, value‑engineering opportunities, and commercial optimisation strategies.
  • Conduct regular market research to identify pricing trends, material availability, and risks impacting the supply chain.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of Group Procurement strategies and category plans.
  • Support Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) initiatives in line with BBBEE objectives.

    Project Support & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with project teams to forecast procurement needs and manage project-specific buying requirements.
  • Conduct routine site visits to support procurement activities and build relationships with project stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely distribution of purchase orders and internal communication with relevant teams.
  • Prepare and submit weekly and monthly procurement reports, including savings templates and performance metrics.

 

Minimum requirements

Qualifications

  • National diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management or related field
  • A post-graduate qualification would be an advantage

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ procurement experience, including supply chain management exposure within construction, engineering, and/or mining environments. 
  • Proven experience in civils, roads, and infrastructure projects from a project procurement perspective.
  • Project Management experience will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience with JD Edwards (JDE) is an advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of project and construction management systems (e.g., Prism, CCS, JDE). 
  • Understanding of BBBEE Preferential Procurement requirements in line with the Construction Charter
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent planning, organisation, and time management capabilities.
  • Close attention to detail and strong problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Results-driven, proactive, and able to deliver against deadlines and project milestones.
