Introduction
Concor Construction invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of a Quantity Surveyor. The successful incumbent will be responsible for assisting in budget calculations, managing project deadlines, adhering to the governing rules and regulations, and performing proper client and employee relations actions.
Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates and to candidates who are currently based in the Western Cape.
This position is available for the MU01 project in Cape Town and will be on a Limited Duration Contract ("LDC") basis for the duration of the project.
Job description
The succesful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to):
- Preparation of coast feasibilities, approximate estimates, cost planning, bills of quantities, specification and schedule of rates, all in accordance with relevant standards.
- Preparation and administration of procurement advice, tenders, tender reviews, and advice.
- Preparation and administration of various contract forms, both for consultants and contractors.
- Preparation and administration of interim valuations, contractors' claims, and settlement of the final account.
- Preparation and updating of standard cost databases and profiles.
- Preparation of effective change control during the pre-contract and post-contract stages.
- Preparation of contract variations to review with senior staff.
- Prepation of financial reviews in accordance with the senior members of staff's requirements.
- Preparation of interim valuations throughout the life of a project.
- Preparation and agreement of final accounts
- Preparation of contracts and dispute final accounts
- Assisting senior members of the staff in their roles as Site Agents/Engineer and Contracts Manager.
- Reviewing the cost information prepared by senior staff and identifying any errors for correction.
- Preparation of monthly cost reports.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications
- National Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying of Construction Management
- ASAQS / SACQSP registration is advantageous
Experience
- A minimum of 3-5 years experience as a QS within the construction industry.
- Exposure to buildings or residential projects beneficial
- Familiarity with construction documentation, measurements. and contract administration
- Must have a valid drivers license
- Must be a South African Citizen
Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook).
- Ability to carry out instructions issued by Quantity Surveyors, Site Agents and Engineers.
- Ability to read, understand, and organise BOQs.
- Demonstrate effective project management skills in all tasks.
- Ability to compile income and expenditure reports.
- A good understanding of building/construction materials.
- Working knowledge of OHS Act and Construction Regulations.
- Good working knowledge of various conditions of contracts specification (e.g FIDIC, NEC & JBCC).
- Working knowledge of CCS/Candy and BuildSmart.
- Awareness of construction processes and methodology.
- Detail-orientated and accurate in all work.
- Good understanding of feasibility studies.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, work well under pressure to meet established deadlines.
- Ability to work as part of a team, while exercising own judgement.
- Willingness to learn and take guidance from senior staff.
